Jansson, Jan. Scotia Regnum. Jan Jansson, circa 1645. - This lot features a mid-17th-century hand-colored engraved map of the Kingdom of Scotland, titled Scotia Regnum, published in Amsterdam by Jan Jansson. The map provides a detailed view of the Scottish mainland with topographical features, regional names, and settlements. An inset map of the Orkney Islands, titled Orcades Insulae, is located in the upper right quadrant. The composition includes two heraldic crests: the royal coat of arms of Scotland supported by unicorns above the title cartouche, and the royal arms of Great Britain encircled by a garter with the motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense. The title cartouche at the bottom right is surmounted by the Latin motto Est Nobilis Ira Leonis. The sea to the east is labeled Mare Germanicum. The lower left margin bears the publication imprint Amstelodami, Apud Ioannem Ianssonium. The map is mounted in a black and gold-gilt wooden frame under glass.
