Anonymous. THE VOICE FROM THE GRAVE. The Martyrdom of NURSE CAVELL. Poet's Box, Glasgow, circa 1915. - This commemorative broadside was published by the Poet's Box, Glasgow, circa 1915. Titled THE VOICE FROM THE GRAVE. The Martyrdom of NURSE CAVELL, the document consists of a single quarto-sized sheet of off-white paper featuring a multi-stanza poem printed in two columns within a simple black linear border. The text provides a dramatized account of the trial and execution of the British nurse Edith Cavell by German forces during World War I. The publisher's imprint, POET'S BOX, 80 Stockwell Street, Glasgow, is printed at the lower right, and a copyright notice appears at the lower left. The Poet's Box was a well-known Glaswegian establishment specializing in the rapid production of broadside ballads and topical ephemera. Included for scale is a crushed foil wrapper for a Tunnock's Real Milk Chocolate Tea Cake. Approximate dimensions: 10 inches by 8 inches.
