Cook, James and James King. A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean. Dublin, 1784. Volumes II and III. - This lot contains two volumes from the 1784 Dublin octavo edition of Captain James Cook's third and final voyage. Included are Volume II and Volume III of a three-volume set. Volume II is authored by Captain James Cook, F.R.S., and Volume III is authored by Captain James King, LL.D. and F.R.S. The title pages describe the mission as making discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere to determine the position and extent of the west side of North America and the practicability of a Northern Passage to Europe. The work chronicles the years 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779, and 1780 performed in His Majesty's Ships the Resolution and Discovery. The imprint identifies the publication as Dublin: Printed for H. Chamberlaine, W. Watson, Potts, Williams, Cross, Jackson, Moncrieffe, Walker, Jenkin, Burnet, Wilson, Wogan, Exshaw, Vallance, Beatty, White, Whitestone, Burton, Byrne, Mills, J. Porter, Stewart, Wallace, Higly, Cash, Heery and Mc. Kenzie, 1784 (M, DCC, LXXXIV). The volumes are bound in contemporary half-leather with marbled paper boards and matching leather corners. The spines feature raised bands and gilt-stamped black morocco title labels. Volume III includes the account of the return to the Sandwich Islands and transactions at Karakakooa Bay.
