Bancel, Ludovico. Moralis Divi Thomae Doctoris Angelici. Volume 1. P. Offray, 1677. - This 17th-century theological work is the first volume of a synthesis of the moral teachings of Saint Thomas Aquinas, authored by Ludovico (Louis) Bancel, a Dominican scholar and Professor of Theology at the University of Avignon. The work, titled Moralis Divi Thomae Doctoris Angelici, was published in Avignon in 1677 by P. Offray, Printer to the Holy Office. The volume is bound in period full leather, featuring a spine with five raised bands and ornate gilt floral motifs in the compartments. It contains a copperplate engraved frontispiece by P. Puchard depicting a Pope and Saint Thomas Aquinas beneath a crucifix. The frontispiece includes Latin inscriptions such as bene scripsisti de me thoma and tolle thomam et dissipabo ecclesiam. The title page includes the publisher imprint AVENIONE, Ex Typographia P. OFFRAY, S. Officij Typographi, in foro S. Desiderij. This volume is an octavo or small quarto in format.
