Graham, G. F. et al. Two Volumes of Scottish Music. Various Publishers, 1851-c.1900. - This lot comprises two hardcover volumes focusing on Scottish musical heritage. The first item is The Songs of Scotland Adapted to their Appropriate Melodies, Volume I, edited by George Farquhar Graham. It was published in 1851 by Wood and Co., Edinburgh and Glasgow, in association with Oliver and Boyd and several London firms. The text includes pianoforte accompaniments arranged by Graham, T. M. Mudie, J. T. Surenne, H. E. Dibdin, and Finlay Dun, alongside historical and biographical notices. The book is an octavo bound in green cloth with a paper spine label. This volume features significant mid-19th-century Philadelphia provenance relating to the Furness family. The front flyleaf contains three pencil inscriptions: Mr. James Furness Jr. Philadelphia from a friend in Washington S Taylor Feby 1854; a transcribed poem beginning Gifts are the beads of memorys rosary; and a signature reading H. E. Furness from his Mother. The second item is The Scottish Students Song Book, published for the Scottish Students Song Book Committee Ltd. by Bayley and Ferguson, London and Glasgow. This quarto volume features a decorative Arts and Crafts style cover design in red, gold, and black on green cloth, depicting a classical figure playing a lyre. The book contains a collection of traditional, academic, and popular songs intended for university students.
