Three Volumes Relating to T. E. Lawrence. Hart, Garnett, and Lawrence. 1934-1938. (DJ) - A collection of three hardcover volumes regarding the life and work of T. E. Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia. The first volume is Colonel Lawrence: The Man Behind the Legend by Liddell Hart, published by Dodd, Mead and Company, New York, 1934. This octavo volume is bound in dark green publisher's cloth with gilt-stamped lettering to the spine and front board. It includes a frontispiece drawing by Augustus John and features two contemporary newspaper clippings tipped into the front endpapers: a portrait of Lawrence by Augustus John and a photograph of Lawrence captioned At the Wheel of a Motorboat. The second volume is The Letters of T. E. Lawrence, edited by David Garnett and published by Jonathan Cape, London and Toronto. This volume retains its original cream-colored dust jacket and includes the Jonathan Cape printer's mark on the title page. The third volume is Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph by T. E. Lawrence, published by Jonathan Cape, London and Toronto. It is bound in tan cloth with a gold-stamped emblem on the front cover depicting crossed swords and the text the sword also means clean-ness + death. The front flyleaf of this volume contains a handwritten gift inscription that reads: To Stuart With love — from Ann and Mara Christmas 1982.
