Late 19th Century Jacobean Revival Carved Oak Small Storage Chest - This small storage chest, also referred to as a miniature coffer, is crafted from solid oak. The primary wood is oak, featuring visible medullary rays on the quarter-sawn interior of the lid. The exterior panels are decorated with deep relief carving. The front panel displays three circular medallions with swirling foliate and floral patterns, flanked by scrolled leaf motifs. The side panels each contain a single circular medallion with a stylized cruciform floral design. Notched chip-carving is present along the vertical corners of the chest and the perimeter of the lid. The chest sits on a base with a shaped apron and integral bracket feet. The lid is attached via two brass butt hinges. There is no evidence of a lock or escutcheon. The interior of the chest remains unfinished. Dimensions: Approximately 18 to 20 inches in width.
