20th Century Trench Art Inkstand - A 20th-century commemorative inkstand mounted to a repurposed hardwood rifle buttstock. The set is constructed from a polished hardwood military rifle buttstock base featuring a metal sling swivel. An ornate cast brass inkstand with scrolling foliate motifs and a textured domed lid is mounted to the upper surface. The inkstand contains a white glazed porcelain liner and is accompanied by a tapered wood dip pen with a steel nib. Two brass medallions are inset into the wooden base. The lower round medallion is impressed with a central broken sword entwined with an olive branch, surrounded by a border reading DESARMEMENT CONFERENCE. The upper octagonal medallion depicts a relief of a standing diplomat in a long coat with illegible characters around the border. No other maker marks or stamps are visible on the brass or wood components. Length: Approximately 8.5 to 9 inches.
