A 19th Century Ram Horn Snuff Mull by J. Gillard - Early 19th Century Large Loch Lomond Tabletop Rams Horn . Used either as a snuff mull or, more likely, a commemorative black powder horn together with bone spoon and hammer with brass fittings, hinged lid and brass plaque that reads: THE PRESENT and a small token of respect and remember this day J Gildard . It appears this Tabletop Horn was given as a gift by Jonas Gildard to a local dignitary or visitor. . Jonas Gildard, and his wife Mary, were inn keepers in Luss, Loch Lomond at the beginning of the 19th Century. Their Inn is now known as The Loch Lomond Arms, the recently renovated former Colquhoun Arms Hotel; gateway to the 45,000 acre Luss Estate. . He was a well-respected businessman who formed part of the Loch Lomond Steamboat Company who brought the steamer ‘The Lady of the Lake’ to Loch Lomond in 1825. . He is also the father of Glasgow Architect Thomas Gildard who served his apprenticeship with David Hamilton, the father of architecture in the city, and a contemporary of both Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and the Mossman family, Glasgow's greatest dynasty of architectural sculptors.
