19th Century Adie and Son Brass Box Sextant - A 19th-century scientific instrument known as a box sextant, manufactured from brass by Adie and Son of Edinburgh. The instrument is housed in a cylindrical brass drum casing with a circular top plate. It features a pivoting index arm fitted with a silvered vernier scale and an integrated folding magnifying lens for precise angle measurement. Two knurled brass adjustment knobs are located on the top surface, and a rectangular sighting aperture is visible on the underside. The top plate is engraved in capitalized serif lettering with ADIE and SON, EDINBURGH. Further engravings include No 2 and No R35. The main arc features an inset silvered scale graduated from 0 to 160 degrees, while the vernier scale is marked 10, 20, and 30 above a central pointer mark.
