A 19th Century W & T Avery Brass and Mahogany Apothecary Scale - A 19th-century professional apothecary beam scale constructed from brass and mahogany. The instrument features a central brass column and beam assembly mounted to a rectangular mahogany base. It is equipped with two suspended brass pans and an integrated storage drawer with a black porcelain knob. The top of the wooden base contains ten recessed circular holes for graduated weight storage. A brass thumb lever at the base of the column is stamped with uppercase characters reading W & T AVERY LTD BIRMINGHAM. One of the two large cast iron bell weights is marked with a raised LB. The drawer contains several accessories including metal tweezers, two spent firearm casings, small brass weights, and a piece of white cloth.
