A 19th Century Mappin & Webb Crocodile Skin Travel Writing Portfolio - A late 19th-century luxury travel writing portfolio and stationery set crafted from tan crocodile skin. The case features a tri-fold design with a full leather interior lining. The left side contains two large gusseted pockets for stationery and envelopes, each secured by a matching crocodile skin strap. The central spine houses a pen loop with an included wood and ebonized dip pen, while the right side is fitted with a photo or calling card window above a daily memo tablet and two upper compartments for writing accessories. The upper interior edges are stamped in gold lettering with M A P P I N & W E B B . O X F O R D S T . W and a British registration number R D 3 1 4 5 0 0, which corresponds to the year 1898. The internal components include an ivorine memo tablet printed with the days of the week, a larger wooden writing surface, and a removable travel inkwell in a leather-cased metal housing stamped I N K and P A T E N T.
