A 19th Century Hardwood and Brass Expanding Book Slide - A 19th-century expanding book slide constructed from polished hardwood and brass. The piece features a telescopic base mechanism allowing for adjustable length to accommodate varying quantities of books. Two hinged, pointed-arch ends are designed to fold flat for storage or transport. The base is finished with ebonized edges and a green felt lining on the underside. The folding ends are decorated with intricate openwork brass fretwork overlays, secured by dome-head brass rivets. The fretwork forms a stylized monogram of openwork brass, which is not legible as a name.
