18th Century Irish Mahogany Blanket Chest - A 18th-century Irish blanket chest crafted from highly figured mahogany. The rectangular carcass features a hinged top opening on iron strap hinges to a spacious interior. The chest is built from wide planks of figured mahogany and sits upon a molded base supported by four cabriole legs. The knees are decorated with hand-carved acanthus leaves and terminate in well-defined ball-and-claw feet. An ornate cast brass batwing escutcheon is positioned at the center of the front panel, with matching bail lifting handles fitted to the sides. No maker labels, signatures, or marks are present on the carcass or hardware. 116cm wide 58cm deep 93cm tall
