19th Century Indian Silk and Metallic Thread Embroidered Panel - An Indian textile panel intricately embroidered with silk and metallic threads. The artwork is composed on a brown silk ground using various techniques, including satin stitch, couched gold and silver metallic threads, and applied sequins. It is presented in a modern gilt-finished frame behind a terracotta-colored mat and conservation-grade Artglass 99. The central motif features two stylized peacocks amidst blossoming branches, with the upper bird clutching a snake. The reverse bears a vintage printed paper label for John Mathieson and Co. of Edinburgh and a recent adhesive label for Framework Picture Framers dated May 26, 2023.
