14th or 15th Century Chinese Imperial Yellow Pottery Goutou Tile Terminal - An imperial yellow glazed pottery roof tile terminal dating from the Ming Dynasty. The circular terminal is constructed from a buff-colored earthenware body with a high-relief molded face. The reverse is unglazed and shows a rough, irregular surface where the medallion was detached from its original cylindrical tile structure. The decoration consists of a five-clawed dragon pursuing a flaming pearl within a raised border. The entire face is covered in a deep ocher yellow lead glaze which displays fine crazing throughout. No maker marks or inscriptions are present on either side of the object. Came to Scotland as Loot from the 19th Century Opium Wars financed by the builder of Ardross Castle - home of Traitors. Diameter: Approximately 7 inches.
