A Pair AWN Pugin Gothic Revival Oak Chairs - A pair of late 19th-century side chairs crafted from solid quartersawn oak. The chairs feature a sturdy construction with straight square-section front legs and splayed rear legs, all stabilized by a chamfered H-stretcher. The low-profile backrests incorporate a rectangular top rail with lobed ends, and all frame edges are finished with clean chamfered details. Ornamentation includes two carved circular quatrefoil roundels on the top rail and a central carved Tudor rose roundel on the splat. The seats are upholstered in deep-tufted green velvet, accented by decorative fabric gimp and brass-headed upholstery tacks. Designed by 'God's Architect' Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (designer of Big Ben) & manufactured by W B Crace & Sons (manufactures to Queen Victoria) after Pugin's death at the young age of 41. Pugin was the driving force of Gothic Revival in the Regency/Early Victorian period.
