A Pair of 19th Century Japanese Matsumoto Kutani Porcelain Vases - A pair of 19th-century Japanese vases crafted from hand-painted porcelain. Each vessel features a rounded ovoid form tapering to a circular foot and a short, flared rim. The white porcelain body is finely potted with a smooth glazed surface showing occasional small, dark kiln-firing pinholes consistent with period production. The exterior is decorated in the Kutani iron-red style with heavy gilding. One side depicts swallows in flight among trailing willow branches, while the reverse shows blossoming peonies and smaller floral sprays. The rims and bases are finished with intricate red and gold geometric fretwork and scrolling borders. The underside of each vase bears hand-painted red characters arranged in two columns, reading 'Kutani' and 'Matsumoto Sei'. No other marks or labels are present. Height: Approximately 6.5 to 7 inches.
