A Collection of 19th Century Irish Lace and Mother-of-Pearl Fans - A collection of four antique folding fans featuring handmade lace leaves and precious materials. The assortment includes two examples with highly iridescent mother-of-pearl sticks and guards. A third fan is constructed from carved bone or ivory-colored celluloid with delicate pierced openwork, while the fourth utilizes similar carved synthetic or natural bone sticks. The lace leaves include various floral point lace and embroidered net patterns. Decoration across the collection includes hand-painted floral sprays in polychrome enamels, gilded scrolling vines, and small inset mother-of-pearl medallions. One fan features a central hand-painted silk vignette depicting a woman in 18th-century Rococo dress within a garden landscape. A coordinating beige silk cord and tassel are attached to one metal pivot loop. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible on any of the fans.
