Space Bar By Louise Marchal Oil on wood panel 2010 - SHIPS FROM UK - DescriptionSpace Bar is part of a larger body of work reflecting on our contemporary relationship with the screen which was originally exhibited at York City Screen as part of ”Screen Play II” 2010. The work details a reflective and suggestive representation of a monitor, keyboard and mouse and reflects upon the sense and perception of space and time in this situation. Like many works from this period of Louise's practice, the surface is only partially painted. This painting was used in the national press and advertising as the publicity image.Artist BioLouise Marchal is a U.K. based contemporary artist who works in an expanded practice based in painting and film. Her first major UK solo show was the inaugural exhibition at the Fishmarket Gallery in Northampton in 2008. Louise has won Arts Council England funding for public art projects and has participated in and managed numerous exhibitions and events. Louise has an M.A. in Fine Art and another in Curatorial Practice and has delivered conference papers on her research on the sculptor Frances Darlington and her current research project on c19th revivals in the 1960s. Since 2018 she has been working on a practice based part-time PhD at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds where she has also taught for several years.
