MERMAID By Jadwiga Kindermann (Yaj). Water based oils. 2016 Signed - SHIPS FROM United Kingdom The mermaid was inspired by a water feature on my sister's septic tank. She is painted on a recycled deep edged canvas with a painted edge which means there may be no need for framing. I began painting from my cot on the wallpaper much to the horror of my mother and was born in Lancashire in1962. As it was a textile town, working in any other industry raised an eyebrow, and as I couldn't adhere to the natural order of things, I eventually went to Art College after leaving school which kept me out of the factory but didn't actually springboard my art career either. In 1979 I moved to Herefordshire with my equally rebellious sister to embark on careers of music and art. It some became very clear however, that two vegan artists in a farming community would not have their dreams realised. And so we took on every job to survive, but continued to pursue art and music as a hobby. In 1999 our mother moved to be nearer to us and by 2014 I became her main carer and had to eventually move in with her to be on hand 24/7 as she suffered from scoliosis and dementia. It was then that painting became my carer which kept me grounded and reminded me of who I really was. I began to exhibit my work at the local Leisure Centre for some years. My pieces were usually massive and always grabbed attention and the odd commission. When my mother died in 2020 my painting took a back seat for a while but then re-emerged when I was ready. I am a great believer in the magic of the 'ordinary'. If you take time to look between the layers of what is presented to you, you begin to see the complex miracles that lie there. As an animal activist, some of my pieces perhaps made people draw breath not because they were graphic, but because they made people think about the obvious elephant in the room regarding animal treatment. I am a Polish Northern lady in my sixties, who now works as a tarot reader and takes up the paintbrush to decorate charity items as I haven't the time for full blown canvas projects. Art is my partner in crime whom I fall out with, make up with and always turn to in times of need. My view on life means I am never lost for inspiration. It's all around. Ordinary is the wild card in art. Condition: Good Condition, as in images Dimensions: 48 x 48 cm
