landscape autumn By junxin Cai ink painting on paper 2025 Signed - SHIPS FROM uk The composition presents falling autumn leaves set against distant mountains softened by mist, conveying a quiet sense of seasonal solitude. The hazy contours of the landscape suggest depth and remoteness, while the restrained palette enhances the atmosphere of calm introspection. In the lower section, a school of fish is suggested through deliberate use of negative space, allowing the surface of the lake to remain open and undisturbed. This interplay between form and emptiness accentuates the lake’s stillness, inviting contemplation and reflecting the artist’s sensitivity to balance, silence, and natural rhythm. Junxin Cai (b. 1971)Born in Jilin Province, ChinaBased in Leeds, United KingdomJunxin Cai is a Chinese contemporary ink artist whose practice bridges classical Chinese painting traditions with modern abstraction. Self-trained in fine brushwork, ink wash, and abstract expression, he also studied traditional Chinese painting under Professor Baomin Fu at Northeast Normal University.Cai’s work draws deeply from Chinese literati aesthetics while engaging with contemporary visual language. Influenced by porcelain decoration, jade textures, and Zen philosophy, his paintings explore the dynamic balance between emptiness and form, restraint and vitality. Through the integration of traditional ink techniques with Western pigments and abstract composition, Cai creates a visual dialogue between Eastern spiritual discipline and Western modernism. His works have been exhibited internationally, including participation in the Rome International Art Festival (2024), Contemporary Venice – 15th Edition and Body and Space exhibitions (Venice Biennale Collateral Events, 2024), and What is Art at Boomer Gallery, London (2025).
