Tikker Scandinavian ice racing sleigh - Tikker Scandinavian 2-person ice racing sleigh with brakes, 45” x 70” x 49” -Original conserved condition showing minor areas of wear due to age > HISTORY: The Tikker developed out of the Dutch passion for racing their horses on frozen canals in winter. This ”little ice sleigh” held only one passenger plus the driver who sat on the rear seat; a light load so that the horse could make fast time and be shown off to the best advantage. Typically a man and wife, the wife riding in front of her husband, raced the family's prized horse. Dutch horses of Friesian and Gelderlander breeding are still shown to tikkers which have been family-owned for generations. >> PROVENANCE: This Tikker was displayed by Count de Hemptinne in the Hotel Particulier, Ghent, Belgium. *NOTE: BUYER TO ARRANGE PICKUP.
