Gypsy Showman's Living Wagon - Gypsy Showman's Living Wagon (Vardo) built by Herbert Varney in Belper, Derbyshire, sells with very nice set of Burlington London lamps, shafts and steps , 79” x 150” x 136”H -Professionally restored > HISTORY: This wagon is a large Burton-style wagon with gear built by Wilfred Bryan, a Belper wheelwright, and the carving was done by Sydney Burbeck. The style was popular with the Romanies (Gypsies) and was called a Vardo. The doors to the sleeping cupboard are fitted with panels of beveled, etched glass and the stove sits in an alcove surrounded by painted ceramic tiles. >> PROVENANCE: Found in a scrapyard in 1963, it changed hands several times but kept returning to Peter Ingram who restored and painted it several times. Was kept at the Romany Folklore Museum in Selborne, Hampshire. *NOTE: BUYER TO ARRANGE PICKUP. This item MUST be removed from the premises by JUNE 27. Condition: Professionally restored
