Napoleonic Pressed Wood Snuff Box, Battle Of The Three Emperors (Austerlitz) - Napoleonic Pressed Wood Snuff Box Depicting the Battle of Austerlitz, French, circa 1805. Circular pressed wood snuff box with molded relief lid depicting an allegorical scene commemorating the Battle of Austerlitz (1805), Napoleon's decisive victory over the Russian and Austrian armies. The lid is inscribed ”ALLEGORIE SUR LA BATAILLE DES TROIS EMPEREURS” (”Allegory on the Battle of the Three Emperors”). The interior is lined with shell. Comparable examples are recorded in the British Museum, including one illustrated in the catalog of the Pinto Collection of Wooden Bygones (no. 692).
