Dated 1980. William Dole was an American artist and educator best known for his abstract collages incorporating antique papers, maps, letters, and printed ephemera. A longtime professor of art at UC Santa Barbara, Dole exhibited widely, including a 1976 retrospective that traveled from the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and his work is represented in collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and UCSB Art, Design & Architecture Museum.
