Provenance: Purchased in England during World War II by an American lieutenant colonel while stationed there; thence by descent. Includes letter dated April 21, 1944, detailing the purchase of the tankard: ”I bought a tankard today, solid silver, Georgian. Weighs 21 ounces, quite a nice one...You always said you wanted nice silver. Now you have the absolute best... As to loving you like the dickens, my darling, I can only do that 24 hours a day.
