Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient William S. Bond Sterling Silver Presentation Flask - Sterling Silver Presentation Flask, William Bond, Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient, 223.3g. Unmarked, tests as sterling. Inscribed ”William Bond, Dec. 25th 1867.” Willian S. Bond served as a boatswain's mate in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kearsarge. Bond received the Medal of Honor for his conduct during the celebrated naval battle in which the Kearsarge sank the Confederate commerce raider CSS Alabama off Cherbourg, France, on June 19, 1864. His citation praised his ”marked coolness and good conduct” and gallantry under fire. The medal was awarded on December 31, 1864. Approximately 6.0H x 3.62W x 1.57D in.
