Edwin Hubbell Chapin (1814-1880) was a prominent American Universalist minister, abolitionist, author, lecturer, and social reformer. Celebrated as one of the leading American orators of his generation, Chapin spoke publicly against slavery and other social injustices. He ministered in Boston during the 1840s before relocating to New York in 1848, making the presentation date on the urn particularly significant. From the private collection of Joel Rothschild.
