George V Sterling 925 Silver Lidded Tankard by Saunders and Hollings Chester 1918 - A George V 925 sterling silver lidded tankard designed in the Queen Anne style manufactured by Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings. The tankard comprises a tapered cylindrical body with a reeded base and a flat-topped hinged lid with a projecting flared rim. The lid is fitted with a cast scrolled thumbpiece and the vessel features a large scroll handle ending in a heart-shaped terminal. The item is hallmarked on the body and the lid with the Chester assay office mark of three garbs and a sword, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the lowercase date letter s indicating the year 1918. The maker mark CS is struck within a shaped punch. Height: 130 mm Base Diameter: 90 mm.
