A Group of Five Second World War Campaign Medals - A group of five Second World War campaign medals presented in a glazed wooden display frame with a black backing.. The collection consists of a 1939-1945 Star, an Africa Star, and a Burma Star, each being a bronze six-pointed star featuring the royal GRI monogram surmounted by a crown. These are accompanied by a cupro-nickel Defence Medal and a cupro-nickel War Medal 1939-1945, both bearing the uncrowned effigy of King George VI. The War Medal is adorned with a bronze oak leaf emblem on the ribbon, signifying a Mention in Despatches (M.I.D.). The handwritten tag included with the lot reads: SET OF 5 - WWII MEDALS / 1939-45 STAR, AFRICA STAR, / BURMA STAR, DEFENCE / MEDAL, WAR MEDAL WITH / M.I.D - FROM THE FAMILY / OF LT-COL A.A. NICHOLAS / M.C BELIEVED TO BE HIS / 15TH PUNJAB REG. The obverse of the War Medal bears the legend GEORGIVS VI G : BR : OMN : REX ET INDIAE IMP : while the Defence Medal bears the legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX F : D : IND : IMP.
