Johann Maresch Polychrome Terracotta High Relief Wall Plaque No. 5235 Start £50 (bargain ) - A late 19th or early 20th-century circular wall plaque or charger produced by Johann Maresch of Aussig, Bohemia. The item is crafted from siderolith, a type of fine-grained terracotta, featuring a high-relief tavern scene with hand-painted polychrome decoration. The composition depicts three figures in a tavern interior: a central man playing a lute, a seated woman in traditional peasant costume, and a third figure observing from behind a table. The background includes detailed architectural elements such as stone-textured arches, a recessed window, and a carved wooden cupboard. The piece is finished with an integrated dark-glazed border designed to resemble a picture frame. The reverse is impressed with the mark MUSTERSCHUTZ, the factory mark JM, the size mark 1, and the model number 5235. A pre-moulded hole is present for wall hanging. Diameter: 30.5 cm.
