Antique English Staved Oak and Silver-Plated Biscuit Barrel - An antique biscuit barrel of traditional staved oak construction, accented with horizontal incised banding. The vessel features silver-plated metal mounts including a top and bottom rim, a swing bale handle, and a vacant shield-shaped cartouche to the front. The fitted, removable lid is surmounted by a central turned finial. The interior contains a removable white ceramic liner. The lot is accompanied by a collection of vintage turned and painted wooden fruit-shaped miniatures. The base of the ceramic liner features a partial blue transfer-printed mark, of which only the numeral 7 remains clearly legible. This style of barrel is characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century British domestic tableware.
