British J. Hudson and Co The Acme City Whistle - A vintage metropolitan-style barrel whistle manufactured by J. Hudson and Co. of Birmingham, England. This model, known as The Acme City Whistle, is constructed of nickel-plated brass. The cylindrical body features two rectangular sound apertures and a flared mouthpiece. The top is fitted with a fixed circular suspension ring for attachment to a uniform chain or lanyard. The barrel is stamped with four lines of text: the top line is curved reading THE ACME, followed by CITY, then WHISTLE, and a curved bottom line reading MADE IN ENGLAND. This pattern of whistle was standard issue for British police forces and was also widely utilised by military officers during the First and Second World Wars.
