Byzantine Copper Follis, Constantinople Mint, 6th Century AD - A Byzantine copper follis, representing the denomination of 40 nummi, struck at the Constantinople mint during the 6th century AD. This hand-struck coin is produced on a thick, irregular copper alloy flan with an unrefined edge. The obverse features a facing bust of the emperor, likely Justin II or Justinian I, although the surrounding legend is heavily worn and largely illegible. The reverse is dominated by a large letter M, the denominational mark, flanked by the vertical inscription ANNO to the left and regnal year numerals to the right. A cross is positioned above the M, and the mint mark CON is visible in the exergue. The coin is presented in a green velvet-lined hinged case.
