A Carved Banded Stone Mask in the Mayan Style - A hand-carved stone mask, fashioned from variegated banded onyx or marble, depicting a stylised human face in the Pre-Columbian Mayan tradition. The mask features a prominent straight nose, almond-shaped eye apertures, and a wide-open mouth. The ornate headdress is decorated with horizontal bands and three circular rosettes with radiating incised lines, motifs that are repeated on the lower ear-like projections. The stone exhibits natural variegation in shades of tan, cream, and brown. The reverse is hollowed and bears a small white adhesive label with the numbers 5, 9, 2, along with faint, illegible markings at the top. Two holes are drilled into the sides with a modern suspension string attached. Height: approximately 26.5 cm Width: approximately 20.5 cm.
