A Pair of Bareuther Porcelain Lidded Urns Hand-Painted by A. Mellor - A pair of porcelain lidded baluster-form urns. The items feature fine white porcelain bodies manufactured by Bareuther and Co. in Waldsassen, Bavaria. The exterior surfaces are decorated with hand-painted fruit studies including arrangements of apples, grapes, blackberries, and acorns against a mottled ochre and sienna background. Both urns are signed by the artist A. Mellor. The decoration follows the traditional fruit-painting style associated with Staffordshire and Worcester craftsmen. The vessels are topped with domed covers featuring gilded ball finials and gilt banding to the rims and bases. The underside of each urn bears two green printed marks: a crowned Bareuther Waldsassen Bavaria Germany mark with the number 214, and a secondary mark stating Hand Painted China by Staffordshire Craftsmen Collectors Piece.
