UK 1979 Proof Coinage Set of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - A 1979 proof coinage set of Great Britain and Northern Ireland issued by the Royal Mint. The set contains six decimal denominations: a heptagonal 50 pence, 10 pence, 5 pence, 2 pence, 1 penny, and 1/2 penny. The collection includes a square copper-toned commemorative medallion featuring a crown and the inscription Elizabeth R 1979. Each coin's obverse displays the second portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin, surrounded by the Latin legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REG·F·D·1979. The 50p, 10p, and 5p coins are struck in cupro-nickel with a cameo proof finish featuring frosted motifs against mirrored fields. The 2p, 1p, and 1/2p denominations are struck in bronze.
