UK 1696 William III Silver Sixpence, Chester Mint - This sterling silver sixpence was issued in the UK in 1696 during the reign of William III. It was struck at the Chester mint, identified by the capital C located beneath the bust, as part of the Great Recoinage. The obverse features a laureate and draped bust of the King facing right, surrounded by the Latin legend GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA. The reverse displays four crowned shields in a cruciform arrangement representing the arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, with the small shield of Nassau at the centre.
