Struck during the Great Recoinage of 1816-1817, the obverse features the laureate Bull Head portrait of King George III facing right. The Latin legend reads GEOR: III D:G: BRITT: REX F.D. The reverse depicts a crowned and garnished shield of arms within the Garter, which is inscribed with the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The coin is composed of sterling silver and features a reeded edge. The surfaces exhibit heavy, dark, and uneven grey-black toning across both faces.
