A Pair of Bank of England Ten Shilling Banknotes, J. S. Fforde signature - This lot comprises a pair of Bank of England Ten Shilling banknotes. Each note is printed in a reddish-brown ink with intricate guilloche patterns and watermarks. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II within an oval frame to the right and a seated Britannia figure within a circular panel to the left. The central legends are printed as BANK OF ENGLAND, I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF TEN SHILLINGS, and LONDON FOR THE GOVR AND COMPA OF THE BANK OF ENGLAND. A printed signature reading J. S. FFORDE appears at the lower centre above the title CHIEF CASHIER. The notes bear the serial numbers B85N 527960 and B85N 527962 printed in black ink. The reverse depicts a larger vignette of a seated Britannia figure holding an olive branch and a shield, flanked by the denomination 10 SHILLINGS within circular frames. No maker's marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item aside from the printed issuer details and signature.
