After Henri Emile Benoit Matisse (French, 1869-1954): Plate from Poesies by Stephane Mallarme. Giclee print on paper, signed in plate, numbered 6/30.
Matisse was known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is accepted as one of the most influential modern painters and crowned as the leader of Fauvism, a 20th century movement that favored a painterly style and bold, expressive use of color over the representational or naturalistic values of the Impressionist movement before.
