Holocaust original watercolor painting from Theresienstadt concentration camp signed with name of unidentified artist in latin characters, also with TEREZIN and (1)943 - the artwork is supported on the back by a black mat it is glazed and framed in a gilt frame the framing was made in ISRAEL around 1980. no further information on the artist or provenance. previously in the family of a Holocaust survivor from the Nathaya area this is a realistic view of doctor rounds in the hospital at Terezin. both the doctor and the close by nurse wear visible (YELLOW) MAGEN DAVID PATCHES the scene was painted by someone who lived in the Jewish GETTO of the TEREZIN concentration camp - it shows a section of one of large halls with the characteristic ”arabesque” ARCHITECTURE of the OTTOMAN BUILDING within the TEREZIN MILITARY COMPOUND WHICH WAS USED during the 19th century for housing the HAPSBURG military detachments which defended Prague DURING THE AUSTRO HUNGARIAN -PRUSSIAN war. At the end of the 1930s tis building became the main location for the Jewish GETTO of the concentration camp. the TEREZIN concentration camp was unique for being used by the Nazi propaganda in an infamous orchestrated campaign to show the world how Jews were allowed a decent life there.a Red Cross delegation visited the camp during 1943- and presented with an ample totally false display of the 'happy life” of the jewish GETTO 155000 JEWS WENT THROUGH tEREZIN WITH AN EXTREMELY HIGH CONCENTRATION OF INTELECTUALS AND ARTISTS AND CELEBS they were encouraged even forced to continue to practice their art visual , or music literary, even a football league was active 33000 died at the camp most of the others were further sent and died at the camp and in extermination camps. 18/26 cm.
