Turkish Post Office in Jerusalem / Foreign Post Offices in Eretz Israel - prepaid 20 Paras postal card of the Ottoman Empire with Tughra (Sultan's monogram) imprint. An additional stamp affixed to the card, cancelled with an octagonal ”Jerusalem 2” Ottoman postmark dated 13.4. Includes a Turkish censor mark. Sent by Kadish Yehuda Silman (1880-1937) to ”Mr. J.L. Berger, Jaffa”. Reverse bears Silman's handwriting in Hebrew. Silman was a Hebrew writer, teacher and journalist, one of the revivers of the Hebrew language, founder of the Hebrew Gymnasium in Jerusalem, and author of the popular Hebrew song ”Sukkah Kesherah”. A philatelic item from Eretz Israel under Ottoman rule, prior to World War I (circa 1913).
