Title page for a stamp album designed by Arthur Szyk, State of Israel 1949, published by K. Bileski, Winnipeg, Canada, printed by Herman Jaffe, New York, with an accompanying identification sheet for the composition. Condition: very good, binder holes in the margin. - A lithographed title page inscribed Israel in Hebrew and ISRAEL, with three binder holes in the margin. The reverse carries the imprint Title Page for the State of Israel, Artist Arthur Szyk, New York, Published by K. Bileski, Station B, Winnipeg, Canada, Lithographed in the U.S.A. by Herman Jaffe, Printer, New York, U.S.A., Copyright 1949. An identification sheet accompanies the page, and when it is laid over the title page it names the elements of the composition by their position: Moses at the top centre, with the warrior Hur to his left and the prophet Aaron to his right, David at the upper left corner and Solomon at the upper right, the Crown of the Good Name at the centre with the inscriptions If I am not for myself who shall be? and The Time of Our Freedom, the warrior Bar-Kochba who led the revolt against Rome at the left and the prophet Ezekiel who in Babylonian exile foretold the return to the Holy Land at the right, at the bottom the Israeli soldier at the left and the Chalutz the builder at the right, and below them the Ten Commandments and the Shehecheyanu blessing.
