Bidspirit auction | Two documents of the Mizrachi
Two documents of the Mizrachi movement in Romania from 1948, both letters of recommendation for the same man. The first is on the letterhead of the Zionist Organization of Romania, Federatia Mizrachi, the union of the Mizrachi, Hapoel Hadati, Torah Va'Avodah and Bnei Akiva movements, Centre for Romania, General Secretariat at Bucharest, Strada Dr. Burghelea No. 3, dated 22 Shevat 5708. The letter addresses the institutions of the movement and its members in the country and presents Dr. Yeshaya Berkovich of Radauti in Bukovina, a veteran of the movement who served as chairman of Mizrachi, as director of the Jewish National Fund in his town and as a public worker, asking that he be received, encouraged, supported and settled in one of the institutions in the country, noting that he is a specialist physician. The foot of the letter carries the signature of the chief secretariat and a round handstamp of the Mizrachi Organization in Romania, National Centre, Bucharest, and in the corner a Jewish National Fund label bearing the portrait of Rabbi Abraham Isaac HaCohen Kook. The second document is on the letterhead of Mizrachi Hapoel Hamizrachi Romania, General Secretariat at Bucharest, bearing the Torah Va'Avodah emblem, dated 12 Tishrei 5709, and addressed to the National Centre of Mizrachi in Tel Aviv for the attention of Rabbi Menachem Hager. The writers renew their plea on behalf of Dr. Yeshaya Berkovich, now in Israel, setting out that he headed the organization in Radauti, directed the Jewish National Fund for many years, managed the Keren Hayesod campaigns and took part in cultural work, wondering why nothing has been done for him, and asking that a willing ear be given to his request and that he be settled as soon as possible. The letter carries two manuscript signatures. Lot details exactly as photographed. Units in lot: 2
