Three Bar Cross with Finial
CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS CHRIST

Negative number 87-5657-30
The finial panel displays the "Image" motif. A winged head marked "cherubim" in OCS appears at the top of the cross. There is an inward-facing bust at each end: The Mother of God (PR)and ST. John the Evangelist. On the inset cross, Greek letters above and below the corpus stand for "Jesus Christ/Conquers, and Jesus is identified by "WOH" Greek letters in the halo, for "He who is." A raised square molding outlines the front of the cross. A rear attachment provides for suspension.

This Cross is similar in design and subject to 255819.032. However, the image finial is smaller, and drilled for suspension. In addition, the top crossbar displays two descending figures (see 25819.003) "angels of the Lord" which replace the cherubim head. The back is recessed.
