Rare French Naval Dirk, Napoleonic Era, First Empire, early 19th Century. - Item details Description Rare French Naval Dirk, Napoleonic Era, First Empire, early 19th Century. A highly decorative and rare French naval dagger from the Napoleonic period, dating to the early 19th century. The blade features a striking curvature with partial blueing and intricate gilt floral motifs on both sides. The hilt is adorned with a crossguard of floral design and a lion’s head pommel, retaining its original chain guard. The handle of the dirk with mother-of-pearl plates. The silver-plated brass scabbard is richly engraved with military and floral motifs, including anchors and classical naval iconography, and is fitted with two suspension rings. The blade shows slight patina consistent with age, while the scabbard and hilt retain excellent detailing and finish. An exceptional example of French naval ceremonial weaponry of the First Empire, likely intended for an officer of high rank. Condition: Excellent, with light wear from age.
