George Herbert Macrum (1878 - 1970) Oil on Board, Signed, Measures ( 8 x 10 inches ) w/frame ( 13.5 x 15.5 inches ) orn in Pittsburgh, PA, George Macrum specialized in views of New York and its surroundings; he painted primarily urban genre, landscapes and harbors. He studied at the Art Students League under Frank DuMond and Birge Harrison. Macrum was both a painter and a teacher. He exhibited at: Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pennsylvania Academy 1908-18, 1928-31, 1936; Corcoran Gallery biennials, 1910-28 (4 times); Appalachian Expo, Knoxville, TN, 1911 (gold); SC, 1914 (prize); Panama Pacific Expo, San Francisco, 1915 (medal); AIC, 1915-28; Society of Independent Artists, 1918-19, 1928; and Salons of America, 1928, 1929. His paintings are in two art institutions: Pennsylvania Academy and the Canadian National Gallery, Toronto. He was a member of the Allied Artists of America & Philadelphia Art Club.
