Thomas Blagdon Higham (Born 1953) Massachusetts
Thomas Blagdon Higham (Born 1953) Acrylic on wood panel, signed lower right "T. Blagdon", piece measures 7.5 x 11 and 9.5 x 13.5 inches with custom gold frame. Cape Cod native Thomas Higham does realistic painting of rural New England scenes - houses, boats, barns, and landscape---which, at the same time, allow for viewer imagination to inject individual experiences of time and place. Higham intends his work to convey his own poetic response to the world, while allowing viewers an intense emotional level. The craftsmanship that Higham brings to his painting is influenced by his Cape Cod family background. His father was a master boatbuilder in Osterville at Crosby's for twenty years, and his great-grandfather was 'the' Hyannis blacksmith.Born in 1953, Higham studied at the Boston Museum School, and then graduated from the Swain School of Design. He has been the subject of numerous articles, including The Review magazine (May - June 1986, pp. 52-54) and Cape Cod Life (Dec. 1987/ Jan. 1988, pp. 94 - 98).
